After the death of Charlemagne in 814 and the eventual collapse of his empire, Europe was low attack and on the defensive. Nomadic people from Asia pillaged eastern and central Europe until the 10th century. Beginning about 800, several centuries of Viking raids disrupted life in northern Europe and even threatened Mediterranean cities. But the greatest threat came from the forces of Islam. Eventually these threats became real. Battles broke out and these battles turned to wars spanning from 1095 to 1229 all this over 1 city, Jerusalem, on country, Israel, one land, the beatified Land.Islamic forces had already conquered North Africa, the eastern shores of the Mediterranean, and most of Spain by the 8th century. They also established bases in Italy, greatly decreased the size and power of the Byzantine Empire, and took over its capital, Constantinople. Islam was spreading even faster than the Islamic army was conquering. The five pillars of Islam appealed to many, as did the Kor an and the founder of Islam, Muhammad. Eventually, Islam posed a threat of a rival culture and religion which seemed appealing and unstoppable. By the 11th century the balance of power began to swing toward the West. The church became more change and stronger from a reform movement to end the practice of kings installing important clergy, such as bishops, in office. Popes were able to effectively unite European fashionable support behind them. This greatly contributed to the popular appeal of the first Crusades. Europes population was growing, its urban life was beginning to revive, and both long distance and local job were gradually increasing. European human and economic resources could now support new enterprises on the scale of the Crusades. A growing population created more wealth and then meant a greater demand for goods from elsewhere. Thus worldly interests coincided with religious feelings about the Holy Land and so the crusades began.Pope Urban II, in a vocabulary at Clermont in France in November 1095, called for a great Christian expedition to free Jerusalem from the Turks, a new Muslim power that had recently begun actively harassing peaceful Christian pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem. These factors were genuine causes, and at the same time, useful justifications for the popes call for a Crusade. These people fought for what they believed in and, maybe, if they had not fought for what they believed in, we would practice Islam ins tead of Christianity. Though many people lost their lives and times were tough, balance of power was up for grabs, and it went on for so long, the crusades were fought over the Holy Land to preserve and protect the aspects of each sides religion. These first three crusades show, the best, how important they were to everyone and how they could have affected the world today. In the end I tried to restate but also try to give points that most people did not know about the crusades that make them significant, important, and needed to understand how these people can beseech over something like this land, The Holy Land.

Fahrenheit 451 Argumentative EssayWas meeting Clarisse good or bad for Montag? In the book Fahrenheit 451 the main character, Montag, meets Clarisse some oneness he has recently known. She changes and adjusts his whole life. Clarisse brings valuable and wonderful effects upon Montag, but she also brings disastrous effects upon him too. In the society where Montag lives a firefighters job is to burn books. Montag is a fireman. Montag burned books for a living, but he has never questioned why the firemans job is to burn books. Clarisse comes along making Montag realize on that point is more truth behind his regular, dull life. She always asks him odd questions that Montag has to ponder into his thoughts to answer them truthfully. Meeting Clarisse was good for Montag because she is the reason for motivation that urges Montag forward in his travel of self-realization, she helps him realize that his life has particularly been a lie, and she helps him allow what he really feels on cert ain topics. Clarisse brings come in a different side inside of Montag, and she brings him out of the little shell he has lived in. Montag is awed by Clarisses curiosity and questioning. Because she is an person who has her own soul and makes her own decision. Clarisse helps Montag realize this by proving she is beneficial for Montag. For example in the book Clarisse asks Montag, Do you ever read any of the book you burn? and Montag replies by laughing, Thats against the law. She is not afraid to ask questions that no one would dare to ask. Montag is always intrigued by her. She is unafraid to express her ideas and she challenges Montag by asking him why he is a fireman, burning books. When Montag goes to burn books at someones home he always thinks about w... ...ds him in discovering his true feelings towards various things in his life. In conclusion Clarisse and Montag meeting was good for Montag because his life changed forever in a controlling way even though there were some h assle. I believe that in the future Montag willing never forget about Clarisse and always will be thankful for her when he reads books and becomes closer with Grangers group of book readers. Clarisse helped bring out a different side and perspective of Montag that had hidden behind his mind. He started breaking the rules and living off the edge. Therefore meeting Clarisse was good for Montag because she acknowledges to him the absence of love, satisfaction, and happiness in his life, she helps him realize that his life has been mostly a lie, and she helps him recognize what he really feels on certain topics. She is a very positive influence on him.

The Guilt of dame Macbeth Everyone is influenced by other people, including leaders or authority, to make the wrong decisions at some designate in their lives. In the play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is responsible for the evil doings of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is responsible for this by using his love for her to persuade him into killing poove Duncan. Because Macbeth loved and trusted his wife, he was vulnerable to her opinions and suggestions. We also know that she is responsible for these heartless things because she has so much guilt that she commits suicide. Macbeth would never have done every of those horrible things if it were not for the transfer of King Duncan, which was pressured on by Lady Macbeth. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a trusted soldier, who is honest and noble. Unfortunately, he meets troika witches who tell him three prophecies that he will become thane of Cawdor, that he will become king and that Banquos sons will become kings. These three prophecies slowly trade his opinions on life and turn him into a greedy, dishonest, tyrant, full of ambition. Lady Macbeths thoughts change as well when she is told about the three prophecies that were told to Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is ambitious, controlling and domineering. She is the one who encourages him to kill the king, she not only encourages him, she makes all the plans herself, which shows her determination and persistence.Yet I do fear thy nature, it is too full oth milk of human kindness. Lady Macbeth is the force behind Macbeths sudden ambition and she tries to manipulate him into feeling guilty and unmanly for not following through with the murder, by using her husbands emotions, she manages to convince Macbeth to murder Duncan. later the death of King Duncan, Macbeth becomes the more controlling one, and Lady Macbeth s guilt eventually becomes too much for her to handle which leads to her death. Lady Macbeth is in position the one that performs the preparations for the murder of King Duncan, but still shows some signs of humanity by not committing the murder herself because he resembles My father as he slept. After the murder has been committed, she also shows signs of being a strong person because she calms Macbeth down in order to keep him from going insane.
